Tests Viagra for Women

A drug that could do for women what Viagra has done for men is being tested at the University of Virginia. The drug is a testosterone-laden ointment called LibiGel and it’s intended to boost the libido of women who have lost interest in sex. It will be prescribed at UVa in coming months to women who are suffering from hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

The condition is believed to affect one-third of American women.

“It is the most common sexual problem that women have,” said Dr. Anita Clayton, a psychiatrist with the UVa Health System and author of the 2007 book “Satisfaction: Women, Sex and the Quest for Intimacy.”

Herbal Sex Pills May Pose Health Risks

(AP) Many of the pills marketed as safe herbal alternatives to Viagra and other prescription sex medications pose a hidden danger: For men on common heart and blood-pressure drugs, popping one could lead to a stroke, or even death.”All-natural” products with names like Stamina-RX and Vigor-25 promise an apothecary’s delight of rare Asian ingredients, but many work because they contain unregulated versions of the very pharmaceuticals they are supposed to replace.

That dirty secret represents a special danger for the millions of men who take nitrates, drugs prescribed to lower blood pressure and regulate heart disease. When mixed, nitrates and impotency pharmaceuticals can slow blood flow catastrophically, leading to a heart attack or stroke.

Viagra for Women, Will there Ever be One?

Helps the penis to erect the natural way, enhance libido and sexual drive. These are what Viagra can do to men. But Viagra for women - that’s a different story. Men and women have different physiological makeup. Currently, the chances of having Viagra for women seem to be nil.

However, recently a group of Italian researchers had released their study on Viagra that had been administered to women. Their findings: between Viagra and placebo, women under Viagra have reported to have attained sexual arousal and have successfully maintained it. Likewise, vaginal lubrication is enhanced and multiple-orgasms have been attained.

Viagra Yes, Contraceptives No

Women’s rights groups and family planning advocates want the Michigan Legislature to pass bills that would require health insurers covering prescription drugs to include contraceptives in that coverage. They argue that in some cases, drug plans will cover the cost of Viagra, taken by men to treat sexual impotence, but not cover women’s birth control costs. As a result, women in Michigan of childbearing age spend two-thirds more than men on out-of-pocket health care costs.

Insurers, automakers and businesses — including many that already have decided on their own to cover contraceptives — oppose mandated benefits, arguing that contraceptive coverage should be negotiated. The Michigan Catholic Conference calls the bills a “direct assault?? on the rights of religious employers.

Viagra helps women with sexual dysfunction

Similar to what has been shown in men, Viagra (sildenafil) appears to be a useful treatment for women with sexual dysfunction related to the use of antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), according to study findings presented Monday at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association in Atlanta.

“In 25 percent of patients with sexual dysfunction, it is caused by the medications they’re taking,” lead author Dr. H. George Nurnberg, from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, told Reuters Health. “Antidepressants are especially well known for causing sexual adverse effects.”
